CONCRETE REPAIR in Rockford, Illinois

Concrete is known for its strength, but over time, even the most well-installed surfaces can show signs of wear. Cracks, uneven sections, and surface damage are common issues caused by weather changes, soil movement, heavy use, or age. We provide reliable concrete repair services to restore the integrity, safety, and appearance of your concrete surfaces, without the need for full replacement unless absolutely necessary. Our experienced team is skilled in identifying the source of the damage and choosing the right repair method for each unique situation. If it’s a cracked driveway, a sinking sidewalk, a chipped patio, or a deteriorating concrete wall, we take a careful approach to assess the problem and offer solutions that are both effective and long-lasting. We understand that no two repair jobs are alike, so we tailor our services to meet the needs of each project.

Cracks are among the most common issues we repair. These can result from temperature changes, shifting ground, or simple wear and tear. For smaller cracks, we use high-quality fillers and sealants that prevent further damage and improve the surface appearance. For larger structural cracks or areas with deep damage, we may recommend partial removal and replacement of the concrete section to ensure a stable and lasting result.

Uneven or sunken concrete is another issue we frequently address, particularly in sidewalks, driveways, and patios. These uneven areas can pose tripping hazards and cause water drainage problems. We offer solutions such as leveling or lifting techniques to raise the affected concrete back to a safe and even position. This process is often more cost-effective and less disruptive than tearing out and replacing entire slabs.

In addition to structural repairs, we also provide surface restoration for concrete that’s worn, discolored, or chipped. Instead of replacing the entire surface, we can apply a fresh overlay or resurfacing compound that bonds to the existing concrete, giving it a renewed look and improved durability. This option is ideal for refreshing concrete patios, walkways, and other high-visibility areas that need a cosmetic upgrade.

Concrete Repair Techniques

Repairing concrete isn’t just about filling cracks or covering damage, it requires the right method, the right materials, and the right preparation to make sure the repair actually lasts. Here are the most common techniques we use when restoring worn or damaged concrete:

1. Crack Routing & Sealing

For surface-level cracks, we widen (or “route”) the crack with a grinder to create a clean channel. This helps the repair material bond properly. Then we fill it with a flexible, commercial-grade sealant that allows the concrete to expand and contract without reopening.

2. Epoxy Injection

When cracks go deeper but the slab is still structurally sound, we use epoxy injection. This involves placing ports along the crack and injecting a two-part epoxy resin that hardens inside the concrete. Once cured, it restores strength and prevents moisture from entering.

3. Resurfacing / Overlay Application

If the surface is flaking, spalling, or worn down, we apply a thin overlay, usually a polymer-modified cement mix. Before placing it, we grind the surface, clean it thoroughly, and apply a bonding agent so the new layer permanently fuses to the old concrete. This technique gives the surface a fresh, clean finish without replacing the entire slab.

4. Patching Damaged Areas

For small broken sections or potholes, we remove the loose material, square up the edges, and use a high-strength repair mortar or rapid-set concrete mix. This ensures the repaired section doesn’t feather out or crumble again. Proper compaction and finishing prevents future breakage.

5. Mudjacking / Slab Lifting

If concrete has settled, we drill small holes and pump a slurry mixture underneath the slab. This lifts it back into place and fills voids caused by erosion or poor soil conditions. It’s often used for sunken driveways, sidewalks, and garage floors.

6. Polyurethane Foam Injection

Similar to mudjacking, but with expanding foam instead of slurry. The foam quickly lifts the slab and provides long-lasting support. This method is lightweight, fast-curing, and great for areas where added weight might cause more settling.

7. Reinforcement & Structural Repair

For more serious issues, such as cracks caused by failing footings or poor subgrade, we stabilize the area first. This may include adding rebar dowels, rebuilding edges, or cutting out the damaged section and replacing it with new, reinforced concrete.

8. Joint Repair & Replacement

Damaged or failing expansion joints can cause cracking and shifting. We remove old joint material, clean the channel, and replace it with a flexible, weather-resistant sealant that protects against moisture and movement.
